ABRSM exam piano rental in Singapore: what to arrange.
If your child has an upcoming piano exam and you do not have a suitable acoustic piano at home, a short-term rental lets them practise on a full-weight acoustic instrument at home. This is a piano delivered to your home for the rental period, not an hourly practice-room booking. Check with the teacher and the exam board's current requirements for the specific exam format.

Why consider an acoustic piano for exam practice?
The touch, key weight and sound response of an acoustic piano are different from a digital piano. Practising on a full-weight acoustic instrument can help a student prepare for what they will encounter in an exam room, if the exam format uses an acoustic piano.
Check the current exam board requirements for the specific format and grade. Requirements can vary between boards (ABRSM, Trinity and others) and between exam formats. Your teacher can advise which instrument type is appropriate for the student's preparation.
If you do not have a suitable acoustic piano at home, a short-term rental covers the practice period without a long-term purchase commitment. See the rent or buy guide for a broader comparison.
What to confirm before booking
- Instrument type: an upright piano is standard for home practice. Confirm the specific model and whether it has been recently tuned and serviced.
- Rental period: allow enough weeks before the exam for the student to adjust to the instrument. Confirm the start and return dates in writing.
- Delivery and collection: confirm whether delivery to your home and collection after the rental are included in the quoted price, and what access information the provider needs (floor, lift availability, door widths).
- Tuning: confirm whether the piano will be tuned at delivery or shortly after, and whether an additional tuning is included if the rental extends beyond a few weeks.
Timing around exam season
Rental demand can increase before major exam periods. Starting the enquiry early gives you a better choice of instrument and available dates. Check your exam board's website for the current session schedule in Singapore.
If the exam date is rescheduled, check the provider's policy on extending or adjusting the rental period before you confirm the booking.
After the exam
If the student continues lessons after the exam, the rental may be worth extending or converting to a longer arrangement. Ask the provider whether a rental-to-purchase option is available and what terms apply. Confirm in writing before committing. See the home rental page for Music Companion's rental options.

Do I need an acoustic piano for exam practice?
Check the current requirements for the specific exam format with the exam board and your teacher. Some exam formats use acoustic pianos; instrument requirements can vary by board, grade and format. Practising on an acoustic instrument helps the student adjust to full key weight and sound response, which may differ from a digital piano.
How far in advance should I arrange a rental?
Start the enquiry as early as possible, particularly before major exam seasons when demand may be higher. Confirm the rental period, delivery date and return date in writing.
What should I check about the rental instrument?
Confirm the specific model, its condition (recently tuned and serviced), whether delivery and collection are included, and whether the rental period covers enough time before the exam for the student to adjust.
Can I extend the rental if the exam is rescheduled?
Ask the provider about their policy on extensions or date changes before you confirm. Having this in writing avoids surprises if the exam date moves.
